Great color, concept, and composition. This was used on the paperback cover of The Impossibles by Mark Phillips (Pyramid Publications, June 1963). I'm pretty sure it's gouache and casein white on illustration board, but I haven't seen the original in person. Love, love, love it.
This illustration was used in 1976 for the cover of the first issue of the italian magazine "Robot", that in the following years became one of the most influential sf magazines in Italy. In 2003, when the magazine was revived by the publisher Delos Books, Giuseppe Festino drew a cover for the first issue of the new series that reprised the same theme.
